Guestroom - before & after

The previous owners of the house used the second bedroom for their little girl's bedroom.  Letter blocks of the girl's name were glued to the bedroom door. The room was decorated with glued on wood forms of Winnie the Pooh and friends, along with a glued-on ABC/123 chair rail with bunny rabbits.  Needless to say, this wasn't the decor style we had in mind for our guest room.

The solution:

  • Rip it off! Starting with a small piece of glue-on chair rail behind the door, I wanted to find out how easy it would be to remove it.   Before I knew it, I turned a small fact finding mission into full fledged destruction.  All the chair-rail was removed along with pieces of wall attached. Winnie the Pooh and friends came down as well.
  • Fix the wall. Drywall mud and sandpaper was all that was required to fix the damage on the walls. That said, the dust created in the process was overwhelming!  It was a week long process of filling the gauges in the wall, letting it dry, sanding, then filling, drying and sanding, etc.
  • Painting. All surfaces needed painting.  The ceiling, the walls, the bedroom door, inside the closet, the baseboards and the louvered closet door. Once the battle over the paint colour was resolved, the painting didn't take very long at all. The colour we chose is Behr "Silver Clouds" ECC-35-1
